PROCLAMATION
First Tuesday of March
A Day of Appreciation and Recognition of Women Students
Whereas, the University of California, Riverside (also referred to as University) supports the tenets of national Women’s History Month, established by expanded Congressional resolution in 1987 to celebrate women’s history in the United States; and
Whereas, the University has a standing commitment to diversity via policies and practices aimed at fostering nondiscrimination, federal Affirmative Action, and human and civil rights; and
Whereas, the University educates women students as part of embracing a global challenge, advancing the knowledge economy, and promoting the University’s mission; and
Whereas, the University realizes the importance of gender equity and equal access and opportunity; and
Whereas, the University promulgates women students’ leadership and their contributions to our University and democracy:
Now, therefore, be it resolved that I, Timothy P. White, Chancellor of the University of California, Riverside, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the University of California Board of Regents, do hereby proclaim the first Tuesday of March as A Day of Appreciation and Recognition of Women students and call upon the campus community to observe this day with appropriate activities that honor the history and accomplishments of the University’s women students.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the University of California, Riverside to be affixed on this third day of March, in the year two thousand nine.
