Why does the University of California, Riverside, provide a Women's Resource Center?
The University of California, Riverside, provides a Women's Resource Center (WRC) to empower women and men in the campus community. The office was established to provide awareness on women's and men's issues and concerns, to improve the campus climate, and to promote equitable treatment, access, and success for both sexes. It is concomitantly a place where female and male students can develop personally, educationally, culturally, socially, politically, and professionally. The intent is to enhance the quality of individuals' lives through advocacy, co-curricular programs, support groups, and referrals.
Is the WRC connected with any other programs or services?
Although the WRC functions autonomously, in that the center is funded as a separate budget-holder through student registration fees, it is, nevertheless, interconnected with functions of other campus departments. F
or example,
the WRC works with the multicultural centers to emphasize the relationships of gender, race, and ethnicity in better serving the concerns of diverse women and men. In a multitasking relationship, the centers also help to facilitate referrals and information-sharing with other units concerned with diversity issues, such as the Affirmative Action Office, the Chancellor's Advisory Committee on the Status of Women, the Women's Studies Department, etc.
What does the WRC offer?
The WRC provides one-time and ongoing programs and services. In promulgating a sense of self-efficacy for its clientele, the WRC offers the following: Campus Safety Escort Service, internships, self-defense classes, conferences, Campus Safety Walk, meeting room, Referral Registry, Brown Bag Series, Gender Research Colloquia, electronic support groups, Women's Hall of Fame, Networking Nexus, Leader Link, traveling workshops, WRC Cyberguide, tax-deductible gift program, and more.
Who goes, or can go, to the WRC?
WRC is open to all UCR students, faculty and staff. The center seeks the support of members of the internal and extended campus.
How do I learn about what is happening through the WRC?
If you are interested in knowing about the WRC's offerings, drop by, call, or access the information on this website. Center staff conduct programs and services throughout the year.
Can the WRC facility be used for programs, etc.?

How can I help or contribute to WRC's efforts?
Whether or not you are a member of the campus or extended community, you can help or contribute to WRC's efforts. Not only might you inform the center of gender-related programs, events and services, but you can attend center-sponsored events, or facilitate a program or support group. You might also start or become a member of a gender-oriented organization, contribute newsletter articles and other material, volunteer to assist with current or future center-generated activities, and/or make a donation.
