2005-2006 Paid Internship Position
WOMEN’S RESOURCE CENTER
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
PAID GRADUATE
WOMEN OF COLOR INTERN
Under the leadership of the Director and/or designee, the Women of Color (WoC) Intern will perform the following duties:
- Develop marketing plans/strategies to promote the Women’s Resource Center (WRC) and WoC Space.
- Develop a WoC workshop/presentation with/for each gender/ethnic department (under the aegis of gender/ethnic Student Affairs and Academic Affairs departments).
- Conduct a literature review and research paper on an area of interest related to the WoC, for example, Latinas and HIV, Asian women and plastic surgery; Vietnamese women and domestic violence. Provide WoC research regarding concerns relative to eating disorders, depression, child abuse, etc.
- Present research findings as follows:
- Make an oral presentation at the end of the term(s), possibly in
connection with the WRC Gender Research Conference.
- Develop a virtual presentation for the WRC web site, with the technical assistance of the WRC Tech intern.
- Facilitate a WoC discussion group. Create topics for the term(s) and establish a time to host the group.
- Conduct special WoC events, i.e., Women’s Resource Faire and Gender Research Conference.
- Attend the UC Women of Color Conference (as funding permits) and existing campus programs and meetings for and endemic to women of color.
- Create and update the WoC virtual and actual bulletin boards.
- Do a “spotlight” on a particular woman of color for the WRC newsletter and/or Highlander.
- Complete other tasks as needed.

2005-2006 Volunteer Internship Positions
WOMEN’S RESOURCE CENTER POSITION DESCRIPTION:
NON-PAID GRADUATE
CAMPUS OUTREACH INTERN
Under the leadership of the Director and/or designee, the Graduate Campus Outreach Intern will perform the following duties:
- Visit student clubs/groups/organizations with a focus on women’s/gender issues to learn more about the organizations’ activities and needs, as well as to determine the co-support available.
- Propose a plan for addressing needs for review and evaluation by the Director.
- Advance a relationship and explore opportunities for collaboration with student governing bodies (i.e., ASUCR, ASPB, RHA) and campus departments (i.e., Student Special Services, Honors Program, Counseling Center, Career Center) around gender and women’s issues.
- Continue current and develop new methods of outreach for currently enrolled students.
- Forward an awareness campaign for the Center lounge, which promotes the availability of the space.
- Develop/co-develop the annual women’s resource faire and gender research conference.
- Write a report of findings and recommendations for future efforts by the WRC in all areas of responsibility addressed by the internship.
- Complete other tasks as assigned.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
NON-PAID TECH INTERN
Under the leadership of the Director and/or other designee, the Tech Intern will perform the following duties:
- Serve as office webmaster.
- Explore/develop virtual student services, including, but not limited to, a virtual networking board, women’s board (women’s discussion group), men’s room (message board), e-Coach (message board), and women’s student organization roundtable (forum, electronic lounge/bulletin board).
- Spearhead a virtual presentation, for the Women of Color Intern, on the WRC web site.
- Update/maintain the information portal that provides links to gender-oriented services, organization newsletters, listservs, and other functional areas.
- Re-engineer the existing electronic support groups and Gender Research Colloquia.
- Post the newsletter and calendar.
- Update the web site accordingly.
- Write a report of findings and recommendations for future efforts by the WRC in all areas of responsibility addressed by the internship.
- Complete other duties as required.
